After scouring the web, an Indiana lawmaker discovers that the Girls Scout are turning America’s children into filthy whores.
Remember a couple of weeks ago when we talked about the right’s increasing animosity towards the Girl Scouts? As this story out of Indiana helps demonstrate, it’s apparently getting worse.
A Fort Wayne lawmaker has refused to sign on to a resolution celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Girl Scouts, calling the group a “radicalized organization” that supports abortion and promotes the homosexual lifestyle.
Rep. Bob Morris, R-Fort Wayne, sent a letter to his fellow House Republicans on Saturday explaining why he would be the only member in the House not to endorse the nonbinding resolution.
He said he did some web-based research and found allegations that the Girl Scouts are a tactical arm of Planned Parenthood, allows transgender females to join and encourages sex.
Morris also said the fact that First Lady Michelle Obama is honorary president “should give each of us reason to pause before our individual and collective endorsement of the organization.”
Morris, a state representative, added that he believes the Girl Scouts have been “subverted in the name of liberal progressive politics and the destruction of traditional American family values.”
He wasn’t kidding.
I’ve spent a few years blogging and, if there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that using wingnut blogs for research results in huge steaming piles of complete bullshit. And Michelle Obama supports the Girl Scouts? WORST THING EVER! I’ve also heard she supports breathing — so maybe Rep. Bob might want to do the people of his state a big favor and knock off doing that.
Benen goes on to point out that the fringe right has been on a tear against the Girl Scouts for a while now. See, themes like empowering girls to live up to their full potential have just the slightest whiff of feminism. And that message that girls are fully human means that the Girl Scouts absolutely must teach kids that they have to have abortions when they’re pregnant and become lesbians and hate God and all that feminazi stuff. It only stands to reason, right? They probably even teach them to be Wiccans — which is just fancy commie talk for witches!
Every time I think the right has drifted about as far into self-parody as possible, I find out I’m wrong. There has to be a bottom here someplace, but apparently we’re not even close to it yet.
